Each year, designers everywhere and of everything wait with baited breath for Pantone, an influential textile company, to announce the “It” color of the year. In 2009, it was Mimosa so we saw lots of yellows and oranges. In 2010, Pantone says it’s turquoise. This makes me very happy because turquoise is one of my favorite colors. It makes me think of the Greek Islands and all places warm. It’s vibrant yet tranquil at the same time.
The good news is you can buy turquoise pieces now and wear them well into spring or summer. If you’re in the market for a dress, opt for turquoise. In cooler months, wear it with a little black sweater or jacket, black tights and boots. Curvy girls, you’ll look great in a sheath dress. Add a belt to show off your waist. Straight figured girls, try a shift. Inverted triangle girls, wrap dress look great on you. Pear shaped, you can never go wrong with an empire waist style.
A turquoise colored cardigan sweater is a perfect way to pop a little of the color in your wardrobe. Use it as a layering piece in the winter. In spring, it’ll be the perfect grab and go for chilly nights. Landsend’s Heritage Cardigan is a great value.
The likes of Cameron Diaz and Audrina Patridge are wearing turquoise colored jeans. They’re a sassy alternative to basic denim. Wear them with boots and chunky sweater in cold weather. When it gets warm all you need is a basic t-shirt and ballet flats. Black, white, gold, silver, nude, tan, chocolate and pale grey are my favorite colors to wear with turquoise. Levis 510 Super Skinny Stretch Twill will rock on Inverted Triangle and Straight figured girls.
Be sure to invest in some turquoise jewelry. Quite often, turquoise is associated with Southwestern styles but you do not have to go that route if it’s not your taste. There are so many elegant designs at reasonable prices. Turquoise is a great choice for a handbag, a belt, shoes or a scarf – it works in winter, spring and summer and essentially acts as a neutral in that you can wear it with just about any other color. Embrace turquoise in 2010. Add a pop of it to your wardrobe to get a refreshed modern look and you won’t be sorry!
