Enough Was Enough

By: Michele at Six Mittens
October 18, 2009

Six weeks ago I set out to try Obagi. I didn't do it so I could write about it on the site, and I certainly didn't do it because I had extra money lying around.* I did it because I had tried everything to get rid of the dark spots on my face and absolutely nothing worked.

I was first told to use Obagi by Kim, the myBBF skin care advisor and then again by Kat, a BBF who also is an esthetician. I was skeptical because I had used a prescription hydroquinone (bleaching) cream in the past and there was no visual difference. But I had two BBF Pros saying, "Obagi" so I thought, okay. But to be extra certain, I visited a dermatologist (for a free consultation) who said, "I could fracture those dark spots with the latest laser, but you will probably do better with Obagi." So there is it was, a clear answer.

Obagi is not just a bleaching creme, it is a whole involved system of potions. Obagi products, like the Retin-A blend, are sold by professionals only because they go deeper into the dermis than over-the-counter products.

A month and a half later, I am thrilled with the results. I went from caking on my Kryolan Dermacolor Concealer, which is a professional grade cover-up that barely concealed the discoloration, back to my Amore Pacific tinted moisturizer. What is even more impressive, I am only halfway through each container, so my $350 supply is going to last 3 months - much better than I expected.

What else did I learn? This is it for me. I have found my lifelong skin care system. I am really looking forward to seeing my skin on New Year's Eve this year. I think all the little freckles and blotches that I have acquired over the years are going to be gone. And then with any luck, in a few years I will look like the esthetician I bought it from, whose skin looks as amazing as my one-year-old son's. Seriously.

If you want to have flawlessly perfect skin that requires no makeup, Obagi can do it. Any money I might have spent this year on clothes has now been replaced with my Obagi purchase. But I think I look much better with great skin and last year's look, than as a fashionista with big dark blotches on my face. Certainly even Peggy and Sheri would agree ?

* I completely agree with the government that bloggers should not be given free products. It is impossible to be impartial when you don't feel the pain of the purchase. At myBBF we do not base any content on the receipt of free goods.
