Having combination skin means dealing with areas that tend to be oilier such as the nose, chin, center of the forehead, and cheeks, as well as dealing with areas may lack oil and become extremely dry and flaky. Don't get frustrated! Attempting to treat your skin as one type is where problems arise. Use separate products to help with the individual problems and bring balance to your skin. Here is my tried and true routine to help care for your combination skin in colder weather.
Washing your face thoroughly twice a day with help bring balance. Rather than using drying soaps, use a creamy cleanser. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser For Normal to Oily Skin is perfect for removing surface oils, dirt and make-up. Glide your fingers in a massaging, circular motion when applying.
Next it's time to shine! Exfoliate with a gentle scrub at least once a week only on dry areas. Removing dead skin will keep your face looking fresh and blemish free. Use products that contain alpha hydroxy acids to keep the face smooth and hydrated. Dermalogica's Daily Resurfacer is a liquid exfoliate that will have you glowing by morning no matter what the weather forecast is. Always pat your skin dry! Pulling or rubbing will only irritate and cause redness.
Don't forget the T-Zone! Treat those oily areas with Kiehl's Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner. It helps maintain balance without stripping the skin of its natural oils. You may have to repeat this application twice a day to see results.
Now you're ready to moisturize! You can never hydrate your skin enough when battling the cold weather months. For day, should stick to a lotion that has an SPF of 15. Even though the weather is cold, you should still use a sun block. Just because you can't feel the sun's rays doesn't mean it's not affecting you. L'Oreal Skin Genesis Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 penetrates the skin's surface to even the tone and immediately help tighten, while protecting you from UVA/UVB sun exposure. At bedtime, try using L'Oreal Deep-Action Night Treatment. This amazing moisturizer will strengthen between the skin's layers. For those pesky dry patches, try Lancome Absolute Night Treatment. This moisturizer contains glycerin that will really trap in moisture and leave your skin feeling restored by morning.
Don't be afraid to change things up and try new products. It's time to create a proper skin care regimen that will carry you through the next few months.
