Step By Step: Blink Your Falsies

By: Karen Cecilia
February 01, 2009

Models, actresses and fasionistas wear them. Vegas show girls have stock in them. Brides don’t want you to know they wear them. Drag queens live for them. What could they possibly be…false eyelashes!

Women want to wear them, but unless you have your own personal makeup artist (which everyone should have anyway), it can be difficult to apply them yourself. Well your difficulties are over! Here is a step-by-step way to apply your lashes. It does take practice, but after a few times you’ll be applying them like a pro.

Before you start, make sure all your eye makeup is applied. Lashes are the last step, even after the mascara.

1. Gently pull the lash strips off the plastic container they came in. I mean be really gentle.

2. Hold eyelashes at the ends and bend to a half circle shape (this will help later.)

3. Hold lashes up to your eye to see if they are too long. If so, cut one lash section at a time until they are the correct length.

4. Take your glue and put a dot size amount on a tissue.

5. Dip a Q-tip into the glue and apply an even, but small band of glue across the whole strip. Don’t get the glue on the lashes, only on the strip.

6. Hold a mirror flat. Like you are looking down at it or up at your nostrils. This will give you an ideal angle for application.

7. Wait 30 seconds for the glue to get tacky.

8. Press the middle of the band of the eyelashes into your lash line. Then push down the ends. If your lashes are in the wrong spot you have time (at that moment) to move them before the glue sets. Try pushing down the lashes with the end of a makeup brush or the non-tweezer end of tweezers. Make any minor adjustments gently with your fingertips to get the lashes at the right angle.

Now you have your lashes on like the diva you are! Remember to take them off that night. Gently pull the lash end and peel off. If they stick a little, you can use an eye makeup remover to break down the glue. Then try peeling off again. Never rip them off.

Heels, perfume, lipgloss, some bling, and now a pair of lashes - you don’t get more fabulous than that. Now go on with your fabulous self and dance the night away.
