Makeup For Mature Faces

By: Jacob Makeup
January 04, 2010

As we age, things naturally change-and so should your makeup. Truth be told, the older you get the less dramatic your makeup should be. Big and bold doesn't always translate well on the more mature woman, so here are some tips to keep you looking your best.

1. Skin care- extremely important at any age and especially once you pass 30. Eye cream, face moisturizer, and lip moisturizer should be the first things you apply before you put any makeup on, and really everyday even if you are not wearing makeup.

2. Eyes-Frost, shimmer, and glitter are great tools to bring attention to wherever you place it. So, if you are concerned about fine lines, wrinkles, or sagging you will want to avoid using these eye catching textures. Stick to satin or matte finish eye shadows.

3.Clumpy spider lashes- Try a conditioning primer before your mascara. Also, try brushing your outer lashes out away from the nose, the center lashes straight up and the inner corners towards the nose, instead of pushing them all up toward the center of the eye in one clump. If you still find a lot of clumpiness try switching to a thinner formula of mascara.

4.Foundation- Avoid too much powder and foundations that make the skin look extremely dry or matte. If you feel like these types of foundations are best for you, try a liquid or cream highlighter on the high planes of the face (bridge of the nose, cheek bones, brow bone).

5.Blush- try a cream blush, it adds moisture to the skin and gives you a subtle dewiness on the cheeks, these also stay on longer than powders.

5. Lips- Lipstick primers are great for moisture and to help prevent feathering. Lining the lips also helps to control some of the feathering off the lips of your color.
In terms of texture, full finish or satin finish lipsticks are great. Matte can sometimes be too dry for an older woman. And when in doubt just add a dab of gloss to the pout of your lips.

Look great, feel young, have fun!
