Ever wonder when it’s okay to show a little new growth to colored hair? Well check out socialite, Olivia Palermo. Her roots actually enhance this gorgeous head of hair.
It is natural for hair that has never been colored to be darker at the roots. The hair above the roots are affected by nature, heat, chemicals, and whatever else we put it through. All these stresses can naturally lighten the color, so new growth will come in appearing darker.
Now let’s say you color your hair lighter than its natural tone. A color choice just a few shades lighter will not only allow more time in between touch ups but it will give the appearance that Mother Nature herself kissed your strands. When the growth gets to two inches, it’s time for a touch up. The whole idea is to keep them guessing.
If you have decided on bolder creations of color, I would suggest touching up the roots every four weeks according to how quickly your hair grows. Unintentional red hair with black roots or black hair with ash blond roots is just not that appealing.
Note: if your intentions are to grow out your color completely, see your colorist for suggestions on doing it gradually. They can work with your natural color to bring you to a nice even place.
So it’s simple. The more natural your hair looks growing in, the easier it is to pull off the deceit.
